Golf in the Algarve

Golfing in Portugal is truly fantastic and remains in the memories of many golfers even long after their holidays are over. Generations of golfers head on over to the Algarve, attracted by the 300 days of sunshine, the high quality of accommodation on offer, the laid back ambience, the beautiful views and over 40 of the best golf courses in the world.

It was the legendry golfer Sir Henry Cotton who put the Algarve on the world golf route and even designed various classic golf courses along the 240 km’s of Atlantic coast which connect Sagres (west) and Vila Real Santo Antonio (east). Almost 60 years later his legacy still remains. A network of excellent hotels, apartments and resorts, marinas, good restaurants and various nocturnal establishments are available. You may also discover a bit of the Algarve history by visiting it’s typical villages and old fishing ports.

Most of the golf courses are located within a 30 minute drive from Faro airport, mainly in the Quinta do Lago and Vilamoura Marina area, where you will find all the services available to spend the perfect holiday. However, there is much to be discovered along the coast from rocky Sagres, via quiet villages all painted in white, through world renowned natural reserves full of flora and fauna and which surround the golf courses. Not only is the Algarve the amateur golfers obligatory stop over, as well as being known for the quality of it’s golf courses it has also been host to some of the great world tournaments such as the World Cup 2005 and the Portugal Masters over various years, the last time being in 2018. This has brought even more credibility to golf in the region.

There are, however, many entertainment alternatives for non-golfers, such as: high-end commerce, luxury spas, all types of different sports, restaurants, casinos and nocturnal establishments, touristic tours and fascinating beaches where you can get yourself an enviable tan. Whatever it is that you are looking for on your golf holiday, the Algarve has it. There is something to please everyone.
